Over the past 25 years, Agéco has gained extensive experience in the agri-food sector, including numerous projects addressing environmental and social responsibility issues. Our experts have conducted environmental assessments for more than 50 agricultural products in Canada, including major crops, livestock, and horticultural activities. Some of these reports have had national and international impact, helping to position Canada as a leader in environmental assessment within the agriculture and agri-food sectors.

Some achievements by Agéco

Measuring sustainability across Canada's beef value chain

Logo du CRSB représentant la silhouette d'une tête de vache verte dans un cercle bleu, une feuille d'érable rouge et le texte « CRSB – Table ronde canadienne pour un bœuf durable ».

Agéco supported the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef in conducting a comprehensive 360° sustainability assessment of Canada’s beef value chain. By combining environmental life cycle assessment, social life cycle assessment and wildlife habitat evaluation, the project provided a robust portrait of the sector’s environmental, social and economic contributions. The results helped inform the industry’s sustainability strategy, support reporting efforts and strengthen its ability to demonstrate progress to producers, clients and other stakeholders.

Measuring the footprint of poultry production

To develop a rigorous profile of the sector’s environmental performance, Agéco carried out an industry-wide life cycle assessment and a GHG emissions inventory for all Canadian poultry production. The results enabled the industry to quantify its impacts, document its environmental performance, and target the most promising levers to support its sustainability priorities. Beyond the analysis, our experts helped the client translate and communicate the results to its stakeholders, notably by developing content for public communications and media relations.

Establishing the environmental footprint of Quebec veal

Logo des Producteurs de bovins du Québec représentant un « Q » rouge stylisé renfermant la silhouette d'une vache.

Agéco conducted the first value chain LCA of Quebec veal production to provide a comprehensive picture of the sector’s environmental performance. The study identified key environmental hotspots, evaluated improvement opportunities and benchmarked Quebec veal against international production systems. The results supported sector-wide decision-making and helped lay the foundation for future sustainability initiatives.

Assessing the sustainability of Canadian pork production

Logo du Conseil canadien du porc représentant une feuille d'érable stylisée et la lettre « P », avec le nom de l'organisation en anglais et en français en dessous.

Through a comprehensive life cycle assessment, the Canadian pork sector gained a better understanding of the environmental performance of pork production across the value chain. The project helped quantify key environmental impacts, identify priority improvement opportunities and provide robust data to support sustainability strategies, industry reporting and evidence-based decision-making across the sector.
